LOS ANGELES – A female associate of a Los Angeles gang was sentenced to a 25-year state prison term today for the 2008 slaying of a Los Angeles International Airport employee.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bob Bowers additionally ordered defendant Jessica Ortega, 32, to pay $1,300 in restitution to the victim’s family and $7,500 to the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board.
Deputy District Attorney Mark Inaba of the Hardcore Gang Division said Ortega pleaded no contest to one count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted gang and gun allegations on July 15.
On April 10, 2008, just after midnight, victim Samantha Padilla was fatally shot when she exited the northbound 110 freeway at Slauson Avenue. Padilla, who was on her way home from work, was stopped at a traffic signal when she was killed.
