Statement from Marshall McClain, President of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers’ Association regarding the Release of the Findings of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Airport Security
November 3, 2011
Los Angeles, CA –"The Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers’ Association (LAAPOA) would like to thank the 26 members of the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Airport Security for their time and contribution toward ensuring the ongoing safety and security of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
“We are pleased that the report reinforces the fact that LAX continues to be one of the most secure airports in the country and safest places in the City of Los Angeles. This success can be contributed largely to the dedicated and specially trained men and women of the Los Angeles Airport Police who serve as the front lines of defense at the airport.
“Although the report makes claims about our organization that we disagree with, we are pleased that the security concerns LAAPOA raised in the past with LAWA management are now being addressed. LAAPOA is currently reviewing the 154 page Report of the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Airport Security. LAAPOA’s priority has always been, and will always be, the safety and security of all LAWA airports, its travelers, employees and those living in the surrounding areas. Our organization and members will continue to proudly serve as the first line of defense in preventing terrorist attacks and criminal activities at a multifaceted, complicated and unique system of airports. We are glad the Deputy Executive Director of Law Enforcement and Homeland Security position was reconstituted and look forward to woking with him on any concerns and search for a new Chief of Police. We will continue to work with the 5 other law enforcement agencies at LAX to ensure the safety and security of LAX is second to none.”
The Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association represents more than 425 sworn police officers and firefighters of the Los Angeles Airport Police Department assigned to protect and serve Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY).
